Bandar Seri Begawan - Temburong residents yesterday took a closer look at the inner workings of mukim and village consultative council in a visit to Kg Belimbing aimed at strengthening ties and gain in-depth knowledge of how grassroots leaders run their consultative councils.
The residents yesterday looked into how the Kg Belimbing Community in Mukim Kota Batu handles the administration and organisation of their consultative councils.
Chosen as one of the ideal examples of organised community administration, the visit to Kg Belimbing and Kg Sg Matan yesterday comprised over 50 members of village consultative councils and mukim consultative councils from the district.
Headed by Temburong District Officer Hj Haris bin Othman, the visit started off with a stopover at the residence of Kg Belimbing Village Chief Hj Mohd Daud Karim who presented the visitors with a briefing on their operations.
The visit to Mukim Kota Batu started with a stopover at Kg Sg Matan where the visitors toured some of the public facilities, including village product manufacturing centres of traditional food, keropok lekor (fish sausage), ikan liking (preserved fish) and belacan (shrimp paste).
The visitors also toured the Kg Sg Matan Homestay programme.
The stopover at Kg Belimbing took the visitors around popular recreational spots in the vicinity such as Taman Riadah Tasik Sarubing, the Belimbing Bird Zoo and the Gasing manufacturing site.
At the bird zoo which is owned by a Kg Belimbing resident, the visitors were briefed on the development stages for the entire compound which included a link from the village's first recreational park Taman Bukit Markucing to Taman Tasik Sarubing and the bird park with several other facilities constructed in between.
According to the Kg Belimbing village chief, the entire development programme is roughly about 15 per cent complete with construction works under way at Taman Tasik Sarubing.
Kg Belimbing in Kota Batu is well known for its organised activities and products which are all developed through their village consultative councils.
Also present during the visit was Brunei-Muara District Officer Hj Jamain Momin. - Courtesy of The Brunei Times
